Hunter makes a belated attempt to show some sympathy for the two children involved but this all feels a little too late to pass muster. As it stands Close to Home has too much of the sensationalised expose attitude and lacks credible characters, however is also proves nigh on impossible to put down! Hunter is an accomplished storyteller with an excellent understanding of how to manipulate the audience to her own ends, and is sure to become a household name with a couple more novels under her belt. Cara introduces modern sources of information gathering including Twitter feeds, police interview reports, transcribed phone discussions etc. Having recently come across and enjoyed the 2nd book in the DI Adam Fawley series ‘In The Dark’, I hastily checked out the debut novel by Cara Hunter from my local library. All the while we learn a little more about their inner lives and personalities, setting us up nicely for further instalments.The precocious 8 year old Daisy goes missing at her parents barbeque and fireworks party for parents and neighbours. The mystery begins when an eight-year-old girl, Daisy Mason, disappears from a barbecue at her parents’ house. In an investigation fraught with difficulties even establishing an approximate time for Daisy’s disappearance is not without complications and as the now de rigueur trial by Twitter ensues public vitriol incites a backlash against Barry and Sharon the fear of vigilante reprisal attacks adds to the pressure on DI Fawley and his team. Close to Home offers compelling characters, an unpredictable mystery, and some surprising twists and turns.

Por ello, me dejé guiar por una corazonada y resulté leyendo repentinamente esta obra, con altas expectativas. My favourite feedback is when readers tell me it's like getting the raw material of the case, so they can be detectives themselves. Al finalizar una fiesta que organizó la familia Mason para vecinos y amigos, se dan cuenta que su hija Daisy, de 8 años, ha desaparecido. And Daisy's family is certainly strange--her mother is obsessed with keeping up appearances, while her father is cold and defensive under questioning. But there’s a certain something about him that gives us some confidence that there’s no-one better to be fighting Daisy’s corner.

A me issue, I get that, but I am sooo hoping this isn't consistent with her other work because I am DEFINITELY getting book 2! Tampoco me gustó que se presentaran tantas casualidades para forzar a que el misterio se resolviera «mágicamente». Daisy’s ten-year-old brother, Leo, appears rather detached from events and is reluctant to speak with the police, however obvious is it that he clearly knows more than he is willing to disclose. But as the story goes back and forth in the timeline, it is obvious that almost nothing is as it seems.

And, DI Fawley is tasked with finding out where 8 year old Daisy Mason has vanished to in the first installment of this police procedural. Close to Home is part police procedural and part psychological thriller and marks the inaugural outing of DI Adam Fawley and his team in Oxford and focuses on the disappearance of eight-year-old Daisy Mason from a family barbecue at the height of summer. Close to Home is not separated with the usual chapters thus emphasising the continuously unfolding developments and a feeling of being privy to all of the thoughts of the investigating CID from the get-go.

A brilliantly plotted psychological crime novel about a missing child and the scandal that erupts in the aftermath with a shocking twist They know who did it. Este libro nos cuenta, tal y como dice la sinopsis, la extraña desaparición de una niña llamada Daisy, quien misteriosamente desaparece en medio de una fiesta organizada en su propia casa. An uninterested mother who seems to care more about her appearance than the fact that her daughter has gone missing and a father who comes across as cold and hostile. As our crew pick their way through false starts and mistaken assumptions, they eventually get some lucky breaks and make some progress. Los demás personajes sinceramente no me importaron y ni recuerdo sus nombres: Hablaban igual, usaban las mismas palabras, prácticamente ni los presentaron.

An intense read that requires concentration and thought, it’s designed to keep us on our toes and barely gives us time or space to step away for even the briefest of pauses. I was having lunch with a friend who brought up Cara Hunter’s novels as gripping page-turners, and then a couple of weeks later my sister also mentioned that she’d picked up Close To Home as something to read while feeling ill and had been so gripped by it that she finished it in one sitting. There was many a scene, where I was so immersed in what else was going on that I failed to notice important clues, and each new reveal left me reeling, thrilled over the authors ability to surprise me.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The fact that I was still left surprised by the novels conclusion is testament to how great the writing is. Mum Sharon, and Dad Barry, each have secrets they'd rather keep hidden from the outside world, while 10 year old Leo, (Daisy's brother) is reluctant to share what he knows with the police - and he clearly knows something. which, speaking of: there was also some half-ass attempting at unique formatting (through the inclusion of tweets and BBC articles) that was just the worst. Lo más seguro es que siga con la serie del inspector Adam Fawley, que le da su toque personal con una trama paralela propia, aunque él, en esta entrega, no deslumbra especialmente, pero sí me gustaron mucho algunos integrantes de su equipo de investigación.
