PARTY IN THE PARK

I should like to offer my apologies for the comments that were made by me regarding the Bulls Head pub. I accept that these comments were both unjustified and unhelpful.

Bit late I know but just wanted to thank all the Residents Association for a great night on Saturday has to have been the best Party In The Park I have been to. Don't know if anyone else saw the big fight outside the Saxon later on? Its a shame some people have to try and ruin such a great night for others.

Another thing dont know if people are aware of the travelers in Monkspath Park? Just a warning, I think we should be prepared as they may target Cheswick Green next because of all the surrounding fields and grass land.

WOW these new buses are very posh. Does anyone know why grosvenor are still running a service in september isnt this a waste of money because the signature ones will be running the service. IV found one benefit of not haveing an evening service it will mean that kids from other areas wont be able to get to cheswick green as easily on a friday night meaning less vandalism as i am aware when walking my dog on a friday through the park and round the shops that the kids who are drinking and causeing trouble are not local kids from cheswick green. But kids from other areas who come here because they know that it is very rare that any police will be around which is disapointing when u see police in the middle of the day but not on a friday night when crimes are takeing place.

One quick thing does anyone know if anything is being done about the riseing amount of scrap iron men comeing through cheswick green as im pretty sure that some of them who are comming through are not licensed.

P.S hope the weather drys up for the party in the park.

I emailed Central Connect for a timetable for the replacement S4 and it looks like we are getting one of the New 'Posh' Signature busses :).... Quote......Thank you for your enquiry regarding our S4 service, which we will be operating from the 25th July. The timetable for this service and all our other Signature routes are currently available from our Signature

website, located at www.signaturebus.com

Hi Gill, Central Connect will be taking over from 26th July with an hourly service to Solihull via Shirley. As I understand In addition to this service Grosvenor will be running an hourly service from 1st September. The bad news is that there is no longer an evening service of any kind. The S8 has already finished.

I would like to know if anyone knows whats happening with the revised bus S4 bus route , I attended the meeting on the 28th April and am aware there will be a revised route and timetable. Could anyone tell me when this is expected to go ahead as I have heard Grosvenor will continue until the end of July. One more thing is the S8 evening service still running?

Hello, I would like to introduce ourselves. John, Gary and Marie Francis have recently bought The Saxon Inn Cheswick Green. We would like to thank all the local residents for making us feel very welcome. We are trying to give the pub back to the community by making it a place where all the residents can meet and enjoy each others company. We have lowered the price of beer, varied the menus and are providing regular entertainment. We have long term plans for example tripple glazing, CCTV and a face-lift for the outside. Thankyou for your time, we look forward to meeting you. regards Marie x

I found a copy of some old cine film on VHS tape whilst clearing out the loft. The original film was made by the husband of a lady that used to live in Heron Close. I'm afraid the quality is not to good as it is has been copied to VHS tape a couple of times. The film shows the old buildings of the Mount Estate that were demolished during the building of Cheswick Green. Most of the film is shot around what is now Cheswick Way, Heron Close, Spinney Drive. It goes on to show the opening ceremony attended by the Lord Mayor in a marquee where the current Doctors Surgery and Shops now stand. You can see there was still a part demolished property from the original Mount Estate where the shops are now. Also the tall poplar trees now much reduced in size opposite the shops. Towards the end of the film it shows a fete/sports day organised by the residents being held on the recreation field. I have uploaded the film to You Tube and there is a link just above this message board that will show the film which is just under 10 minutes long.

The current S4 bus service will cease this summer and Centro are planning to provide a replacement. There are limited options for a new service and the Parish Council is calling a public consultation meeting to seek your views on 28th April 2010 in the Village Hall at 7:30pm. Grosvenor Coaches have struggled to operate the S4 service on a commercial basis and have increasingly relied on support from Centro. After Grosvenor Coaches recently announced their intention to cease running the S4, Centro are now fully funding it until at least June 5th 2010 in order to maintain a bus service for Cheswick Green and the Woodlands area of Shirley. If you use the bus service then it is important that you attend this meeting to give your views on the options for the new service. Representatives from Centro and Solihull Council will be in attendance.

I have added an RSS news feed showing local planning applications. You can access it by clicking the link just under the Title at the top of this page. Each listed application is clickable allowing detailed views of those plans.

Thanks for posting details of the Safer Streets website Alan. I love what the internet can do for local communities but am not convinced with this one in its present form. Its a 'beta' version so is work in progress maybe. For the Cheswick green area it looks as if Shirley Golf Course is a hotbed of crime :) maybe that's a technical issue but the description does not specify a location. My major concern is what the site sets out to achieve, is it where to avoid, where not to buy a house or where to go if your looking for involvement. I'll keep checking the site though and see how it pans out. Its a Direct Gov site so you would expect them to know what they are doing.... you would wouldn't you :)

Just thought people may be interested in this web site i found its only solihull and a couple of other councils in the country that are taking part in it and you can say which areas you feel safe in and which areas you dont and suggest improvments. http://saferstreets.direct.gov.uk/Default.aspx?pilotarea=solihull

Hi Lisa, You must be going back quite a few years, I've been here for 17 years and I don't remember it being in the park. Maybe the first residents organised it.

Hi Phil - Thanks for the information. I recall attending a fireworks display/bonfire night on the park area near the village hall in the past, does it no longer take place in this location anymore?

Margaret - That is very disappointing to hear, what part of Cheswick Green did this take place? I don't go out much at night but generally do people see a lot of young kids hanging around the village at night?

The darker nights are coming so the vandals are about again. I have had an egg thrown up my front door and now a brick thrown at my car tonight, causing a big dent on my front wing. I thought this damage had been stopped last winter by our local police but they are still out there they are local children - do you know what your kids are up to when they go out at night ?

Ian - I'm note sure if you are a member of the CGRA but I find your comments very strange and aggressive. The point Roland makes is perfectly viable and you have acted untoward, especially for someone who is a member of this association. You can prevent vanadlism in many ways and my suggestion would be to introduce martial law in the village. This would provide a more hands on approach to identifying and preventing any youths trying to make nuisance. What do others think?
